Fire damage comes with a whole host of hazards and issues beyond the fire itself.   Fire suppression materials including chemicals, corrosives and powders, as well as soot and ash can be toxic to the environment once initial clean up is complete.  Exposure to these chemicals can cause skin, eye, and sinus irritation on contact.  Soot, ash and dangerous irritants can also return, suspended as airborne particles if industrial grade vacuums are not used in the restoration process.  Special odor eliminators also work to erase any traces of smoke or fire suppressant substances.
